Streamlined clear tapered glasses with a thick sham become a vibrant collection in amethyst, smoke, cobalt and teal.
In the glass making process, melted clear glass is encased in a layer of molten colored glass and then mouth blown into these clean, modern shapes. When cooled, stripes are hand-etched and polished. Because of the handmade quality there may be imperfections.
Drawing inspiration from the beauty of the natural world, the undulating shape of each Aalto piece alludes to the untamed shorelines of Finland's thousands of lakes. The fluid aesthetic reaffirms the deep connection between man and nature while making a statement against the failure of industrial production to meet universal human needs. Designed by Alvar Aalto, 1936.
In 1936, Alvar Aalto created this classic series. The Alvar Aalto Collection has been a staple of modern Scandinavian design and the most iconic series in the Iittala range ever since. Today, just as then, each and every piece in the Alvar Aalto Collection is mouth blown at the Iittala glass factory. Created in a wide range of colours and sizes, a votive from the Aalto Collection is a pleasure to own or give as a gift. Designed by Alvar Aalto, Pentagon Design 1936
Aria Oval Serving Bowl:
Arrondi presents a twist on the kitchen's most ceremonious of tool sets. Literally. The well-balanced handles are artfully twisted, winding such that flat areas unfold just where your fingers want to lie.
The knife has a sharp, slightly hooked point and a notched blade that together ensure that each anticipated serving is sliced through cleanly and completely. Its equally competent companion features a wide, flat serving surface. Designed by New Mexico native Aaron Johnson, each piece is forged of lustrous, durable, rust-resistant 18/10 stainless steel and is dishwasher safe. An excellent choice for an anniversary gift, or any gift-giving ocassion that welcomes cake.
